Introduction / History

The Bondili, also known as Valmiki, live primarily in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha. They speak Telugu and identify strongly with the cultural traditions of South India. The community associates its heritage with Valmiki, the sage traditionally credited with composing the Ramayana, one of Hinduism's major epic texts. This connection shapes aspects of their identity, religious observance, and community memory.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most Bondili people are engaged in farming, reflecting the agricultural character of many communities in the regions where they live. Others work as traders, businesspeople, or in occupations connected to local markets and economic life. Some individuals from the community have achieved recognition in fields such as sports, entertainment, and politics.

Family and community relationships are important parts of Bondili life. Daily routines are often shaped by work, household responsibilities, local customs, and participation in community events. In agricultural settings, livelihoods may depend on seasonal cycles, land access, and local economic conditions. Social life can include gatherings connected to family celebrations, religious festivals, and community identity.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Bondili are Hindu and participate in widely observed Hindu festivals such as Diwali and Holi. In addition to these celebrations, they observe festivals distinctive to their own community traditions. One important observance is Valmiki Jayanti, which commemorates the birth of Valmiki.

Their religious identity is closely connected to their belief that they are descendants of Valmiki, the sage associated with the Ramayana. Their spiritual life reflects Hindu worship, festival participation, and traditions linked to their community heritage and religious ancestry.

What Are Their Needs?

The Bondili people need opportunities to hear and understand the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that connect meaningfully with their language and cultural background. They need access to faithful Christian witness, Scripture, and believers willing to build relationships marked by humility, love, and perseverance.

Practical needs are also important. Families involved in agriculture, trade, or local business may face challenges connected to economic stability, education, healthcare, and community development. Support that addresses both spiritual and physical concerns can help strengthen individuals, families, and communities.

Prayer Items

Pray that the Bondili people will be adopted through the People Group Adoption program so that sustained prayer, committed partnership, and future gospel engagement will reach them.
Pray that Christians will lovingly and faithfully reach out to the Bondili people, and that gospel workers will receive vision, wisdom, and perseverance to share Jesus with them.
Pray that a deep spiritual hunger will arise among the Bondili people, leading many to seek and follow Jesus Christ no matter what the cost, and that whole families will be transformed by the gospel.
Pray for the physical needs of the Bondili people, including access to healthcare, education, clean water, stable livelihoods, and practical support for families and communities.
